Magnetic Stripe
A common preferred technology is the magnetic stripe. Allsafe manufactures these cards in a variety of strengths and stripe sizes. These cards are swiped in magnetic stripe readers and are commonly used to assist in tracking information or permitting access into buildings/gates. Stripes have coercivity (energy), which is the degree of resistance to change in the direction of magnetization, and the unit of resistance to this magnetic change is termed as its Oersted.
Available sizes:
- 5/16" (for video imaged cards)
- 3/8" (for non-video imaged cards)
- 1/2" (for video or non-video cards)
Available strengths:
- Low coercivity (300-600 Oe), which conforms to ISO 7811/2 specifications.
- High coercivity (2750-4000 Oe), which conform to ISO 7811/6 specifications.
Available encoding:
- Track 1: 79 alphanumeric characters
- Track 2: 40 numeric characters
- Track 3: 107 numeric characters
Standard format:
- Track 1: ABA (starts with "B" character)
Proprietary formats:
- Track 2: Cincinnati (starts with "C" character)
- Track 2: MTX Amano (starts with "C" character)
